After the War of 1812, the black community in Ontario grew with the steady arrival of runaway slaves from the southern United States. Over the next few years many slaves found freedom by following the Underground Railroad to Ontario.

Huguenots & Walloons - Researching these ancestors

Huguenots and Walloons were Protestants who fled from religious persecution to America. Huguenots came from France, the Walloons from Belgium. Many Americans and Canadians can trace their roots to these brave settlers who fled to America in the 17th Century. The first Huguenot refugees went to Prussia, the German Palatinate and then to America.
